Roman Kemp didn’t think he’d last on I’m A Celeb after rat encounter

Roman Kemp didn’t think he’d last in the ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ jungle after he came face-to-face with a rat the size of an "extra long hot-dog".
The Capital FM DJ finished third on this year’s series – behind ‘Coronation Street’ star Andy Whyment and Queen of the Jungle Jacqueline Jossa – and he has admitted it was one of the "best" and hardest things he’s ever done in his life.
The 26-year-old star – who is the son of Spandau Ballet’s Martin Kemp and former Wham! star Shirlie Kemp – confessed that he "genuinely" felt like he wouldn’t make it passed the first day because of his encounter with the rather terrifying rodent.
Speaking to his co-host Sonny Jay on ‘Capital Breakfast with Roman Kemp’ on Tuesday morning (10.12.19), he said: "It’s the best thing I’ve ever done in my life.
"It has topped every moment I can ever imagine.
"It was more than what I wanted.
"It was better than I ever expected.
"Harder – my word, was it harder than I thought.
"First night, I was like ‘how am I going to do this’, genuinely.
"I fell asleep and there was a rat the size of an extra long hot-dog.
"You know the big ones you get in the cinema? And it was looking at me and I was going ‘I can’t do this.’"
Roman will return to work on the ‘Capital Breakfast’ show on Thursday (12.12.19) after three weeks in the Australian jungle.
In a video message to Capital listeners earlier this week, he said: "I’ll be back Thursday morning because the show never stops. I really can’t wait.
"The jungle experience was – in three words – intriguing, wonderful and disgusting, that’s the only words I can have to describe the whole thing.
"I’m gutted that I missed the Jingle Bell Ball, I hope it was every moment I wished it could have been. I can’t wait to see you on Thursday, speak soon."
Roman – who reunited with his girlfriend Anne-Sophie Flury upon his exit from the jungle – also thanked listeners for voting for him during his time Down Under.
He added: "I just want to say thank you so much for voting for me whilst I’ve been in the jungle and keeping me in there. I couldn’t believe it.
"Everyone’s been talking to me about the support that everyone’s shown and I’ve seen a bit of it and I can’t wait to see you all."
Tune into ‘Capital Breakfast with Roman Kemp’, week days from 6am to 10am.
