Emmerdale’s Kerry Wyatt to fake terminal illness

Emmerdale’s Kerry Wyatt will fake a terminal illness in order to get her dream wedding.

The wayward mum, played by actress Laura Norton, is set to shock fans of the ITV soap by pretending to have a life-threatening disease in order to win a contest for an all expenses paid ceremony because she feels insecure about her boyfriend Dan Spencer’s (Liam Fox) reluctance to propose.

Laura told The Sun newspaper: "When Kerry is teased by the factory girls about not getting married, she decides to prove that she can. She starts dropping hints and goes on eBay to buy a wedding dress. It costs her £12 and looks more like underwear. But the most outlandish thing she does is enter a contest to win a dream wedding.

"She writes this long essay about how she has a life-threatening illness, which she then performs to a video camera while wearing a wedding dress and veil. This mad desire for a wedding – as ridiculous as it is – is totally believable because Kerry is so insecure and can’t understand why Dan won’t propose to her."

Since joining the country-based show two years ago, Laura has noticed a marked difference in which viewers have responded to her alter-ego, and believes the full extent of Kerry’s vulnerable side has yet to be seen.

She explained: "Kerry has many layers and we’re still only scratching the surface. It’d be nice if we exposed why she makes all these terrible decisions. She is one of those people who will always be complicated."
