Mark Gatiss: There’s no ‘immediate plans’ for new Sherlock

Mark Gatiss says there are "no immediate plans" to revive ‘Sherlock’.
The programme’s creator has revealed there aren’t any plans for the Benedict Cumberbatch led television show to return to screens but he didn’t rule out a possible reunion for Sherlock and his sidekick Watson (Martin Freeman).
He said: "You could go back but there are no immediate plans."
However, Mark has been keen to get a series about another detective, Columbo, revived but the "rights are really tied up".
Speaking to Radio Times, he added: "I really tried with Columbo. I did have a decent go at it, but the rights are really tied up. I think it’s a devastatingly brilliant format. My plan was to put Peter Falk to the back of my mind and start again from the beginning. Maybe just go madly different. But the one thing Columbo has to be is the most unprepossessing, seemingly unimpressive sadist you’ll ever meet. All that ‘Oh, just one more thing’ stuff isn’t absent-mindedness. He’s such a sadist."
The last series of ‘Sherlock’ aired in early 2017, and speaking later that year, Mark admitted they were considering bringing it to and end because it was so hard to get the schedules of Martin and Benedict to line up every year.
Gatiss said at the time: "It’s not lack of will – it’s a nightmare to schedule. It was very, very hard to schedule the last series, because of Martin and Benedict’s availability. And Steve’s and mine. There is always that ‘Fawlty Towers’ principle of, ‘Let’s just leave it’. We’ve had the keys to Baker Street for a while, but one of the wonderful things is that they’re always shared. They were shared while we were making it. There’s nothing wrong with saying, ‘That was our version, somebody out there go and do their version.’"
