Ben Hardy went ‘bright red’ meeting Adam Woodyatt

EastEnders’ Ben Hardy went "bright red" when he first met his on-screen dad Adam Woodyatt.

The young star – who plays Peter Beale in the BBC One soap – admits he was overcome with nerves when he was first introduced to the soap icon, who has played Peter’s dad Ian Beale for over 25 years.

He said: "I remember the first time I met Adam Woodyatt and he was really friendly. He sent me a little message on Twitter before we met each other saying, ‘Any problems, give me a shout.’ But the first time I met him I got a bit flustered, a bit bright red."

Ben often catches himself calling Adam by his alter-ego’s name, Ian, by accident but insists it’s a common mistake.

He added to Attitude magazine: "I still do it! I was very mindful of it at the start, but then you realise everyone kind of does it.

"I go, ‘Oh Billy – I mean, Perry.’ It happens all the time, so everyone’s cool about it. It probably bothers some people, it doesn’t bother me. The only time it ever bothers me is if I’m on the street and somebody starts shouting ‘Peter’ at me over and over again or something."
