Emmerdale’s Louisa Clein opens on ‘terrifying’ theatre collapse

Louisa Clein has opened up on the "terrifying" moment the Piccadilly Theatre ceiling collapsed.
The former ‘Emmerdale’ actress – who played Maya Stepney on the soap until her exit earlier this year – was at the venue with her mother when a portion of the ceiling fell during a performance of ‘Death of a Salesman’ on Wednesday evening (06.11.19), leaving some audience members hurt.
She tweeted: "Evacuated from the #piccadillytheatre 30 mins into #DeathOfASalesman. Terrifying moment. Sounds like the roof came down… (sic)"
She later assured her followers she was unharmed, and added she hopes to "see the rest" of the show at a later date.
She wrote: "Just to say…. my mum and I are fine. The first half hour was utterly mesmerising ….. really hope I get to see the rest at some point! #DeathOfASalesman #piccadillytheatre. (sic)"
The City of Westminster Police confirmed on social media that "everyone" was taken out of the theatre, with "a few people" suffering "minor injuries".
And the London Fire Brigade added: "Firefighters are attending the Piccadilly Theatre where a section of plaster has fallen from the ceiling during a performance.
"Around 1,100 people evacuated the theatre before we arrived."
Louisa, 40, left ‘Emmerdale’ for good in May after her paedophile character Maya Stepney was jailed.
Although she hasn’t ruled out a return to the ITV show, she admitted living with her family in London would make things more difficult.
She explained: "’Emmerdale’ is the most amazing place to work. I’ve loved my time on the show but I live in London, my life and my family are in London. It’s hard, who knows."
