‘Coronation Street’ star Melanie Hill turned down the opportunity to appear in award-winning comedy ‘The Office’.
The 57-year-old actress was offered the chance to audition for Ricky’s Gervais’ acclaimed mockumentary set in the offices of fictional paper company Wernham Hogg but she didn’t go to the audition once her agent told her some of the script would have to be improvised.
Speaking to Inside Soap magazine, she revealed: "It was when my agent said, ‘I have an interview for a new series set in an office and it’s going to be improvised a bit.’
"I went, ‘Oh, I don’t like the sound of that,’ and didn’t go for my interview. It’s like one of those kill-me-now moments!"
Melanie is right to regret her no-show as ‘The Office’, which ran from 2001 to 2003, is considered to be one of the greatest British sitcoms of all-time and went on to win a Golden Globe Award.
Melanie is currently a regular on screens thanks to her role as Cathy Matthews on ‘Corrie’ and she admits the first time she stepped onto the cobbles of the famous Weatherfield set in 2015 was an "emotional" moment in her career.
She said: "When my agent phoned me and asked if I wanted to audition for ‘Corrie’, naturally my reaction was a big, ‘Yes!’
"When I saw the cobbles for the first time, it was quite emotional."
