Jake Wood: EastEnders is in ‘really good place’

Jake Wood says ‘EastEnders’ is "in a really good place" since Kate Oates joined the BBC One soap.
The 47-year-old star has heaped praise on the former ‘Coronation Street’ and ‘Emmerdale’ boss – who is senior executive producer of ‘EastEnders’, ‘Casualty’, ‘Holby City’, ‘Doctors’, BBC Scotland’s ‘River City’, and Welsh language soap ‘Pobol y Cwm’ – and the soap’s executive producer Jon Sen, admitting the programme is at the top of its game at the moment.
He told BANG Showbiz: "Since Kate Oates has been there and Jon … it’s a really strong team at the moment.
"We have got a great set of actors, production is great, writing is great, it’s in a really good place.
"It’s very strong."
Jake – who has played Max Branning on the show since 2006 – admitted Kate has been "amazing" since she joined the soap.
He added: "Kate is a powerhouse, wherever she has been before she has driven them shows and made them hugely successful and that’s what the BBC were banking on, and this has been no different. She has come to us and done amazing.
"I’ve been there nearly 15 years and this is a really exciting period to be there. It’s great."
Jake’s co-star Danny Dyer (Mick Carter) also previously admitted the soap was going in the right direction since Kate took over in late 2018.
He said: "It’s a creative place, it’s a difficult place to work, we’ve had a tough couple of years.
"We’re coming out of the end of it now.
"Kate Oates has come in and she’s great. She knows her game.
"I’m very blessed. I’m earning a living, feeding my kids."
