Katie McGlynn appreciates life more after Corrie plot

Katie McGlynn says playing a cancer victim has really made her "appreciate the small things in life".
The ‘Coronation Street’ star’s character Sinead Tinker is to tragically lose her battle with cervical cancer this week in heart-breaking scenes, and the former ‘Waterloo Road’ actress admits she wouldn’t be able to watch her alter-ego’s final moments if it hadn’t been for all the support she’s received on social media.
She wrote on Twitter: "Sinead feeling the rain for the last time has really made me appreciate the small things in life that we all take for granted
"Your beautiful messages mean everything..I wouldn’t be able to watch Sinead’s final days if it wasn’t for the support of every single one of you ..I’m going to miss Sinead Tinker so much, but I am so humbled to hear we’re doing this storyline justice (sic)"
Katie also admits it has been a "privilege" to have played out the cervical cancer story, and she feels "relieved" to have portrayed the plot.
Speaking on ‘BBC Breakfast’, she said: "I felt like we have a privilege having a platform like Coronation Street to portray real life.
"People are dying from cancer, life isn’t a fairytale, if we hadn’t of gone all the way through, it wouldn’t have made as much of an impact.
"I’m so relieved we’ve done this storyline."
Katie recently opened up about the hard-hitting storyline, admitting it has affected her "mental health".
The 26-year-old star said: "I kind of underestimated the effect it’s had on my mental health. I’ve only just noticed it.
"Walking away from filming and watching it on Monday, that part of me is breathing Sinead, and it’s bizarre.
"But I started doing a fitness thing to safeguard myself, and that’s really helping me mentally.
"I sound silly saying it, but I believe Sinead is real.
"I’ve played her for six-and-a-half years, me and ‘Corrie’ created this character, I feel like she’s my friend.
"So watching her die was just awful. But it’s raising awareness, and I just hope we are doing that."
