Ron Perlman admits The Capture torture scenes made him ‘cringe’

Ron Perlman admits ‘The Capture’ torture scenes made him very uncomfortable.
The 69-year-old actor plays brutal CIA anti-terror agent Frank Napier in the BBC One conspiracy thriller, and he revealed some of his character’s tactics were difficult to film.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror newspaper, he said: "That made me cringe. You call home and say, ‘I’ about to shoot a scene and you’re going to hate me’… I was aware there were lines crossed."
However, Ron also insisted his character is actually one of the good guys despite his actions – which include sanctioning torture, silencing and witnesses and faking evidence – as he pointed out the "unimaginable" situations he faces.
He explained: "It’s easy for us armchair philosophers to make judgments about people dealing with real life-and-death circumstances.
"The things they have to do to root out people who have nothing but destruction in their hearts are sometimes unimaginable.
"The intelligence services are up against a singlemindedness of evil and destruction. That require a response that’s appropriate."
Meanwhile, the ‘Hellboy’ star commented on his own career – which has included parts in the likes of ‘Tangled’, ‘Sons of Anarchy’ and ‘Pacific Rim’ – as he revealed his one big ambition in acting is to land a role in a James Bond movie.
Admitting he doesn’t mind if he just makes a cameo appearance, he added: "Who wouldn’t want to say, ‘I was in a Bond movie?’ I don’t care how big the role is."
‘The Capture’ finale airs tonight (08.10.19) at 9pm on BBC One.
