Denise Black gets recognised for soap roles

Denise Black gets recognised in the street for her roles in ‘Emmerdale’ and ‘Coronation Street’ as much as she does for ‘Queer As Folk’.
The 61-year-old actress starred in the groundbreaking show as Hazel Tyler, but has said that her roles in ‘Emmerdale’ – where she played Joanie Wright – and ‘Coronation Street’, where she starred as Denise Osbourne, have brought her just as much fame as the Channel 4 drama.
When asked what she gets recognised for during an appearance on ‘Loose Women’ on Friday (04.10.19), she said: "Mainly ‘Queer As Folk’ and soaps. So gay men will come and often tell me where they were in their life when they saw it, and then with soap, I don’t know … you can tell me, but I feel like ‘Corrie’ and ‘Emmerdale’, you own it. Their your shows, so that sort of brings me close to [the public] just by lucky chance. So those are the things."
Denise starred in ‘Corrie’ from 1992 to 1997 before making reappearances in 2007 and 2017, and appeared in ‘Emmerdale’ in 2013, before becoming a regular cast member from 2015 to 2017.
But the actress played coy when asked if she would ever return to either soap, as she implied she was focusing on her movie career.
Asked about a soap return, Denise – who stars in recently released movie ‘The Last Tree’ – said: "Well, I don’t … you won’t remember because so many people come through this table, but I watched it last time I was on ‘Loose Women’. I flirted with the camera and said ‘I wouldn’t mind a part in a movie’. [And now] I’m breaking into movies."
