Beverley Callard: I’ll be on anti-depressants forever

Beverley Callard will need anti-depressants for the rest of her life.
The 62-year-old actress – who plays Liz McDonald on ‘Coronation Street’ – has battled depression for three decades, and she admits she couldn’t combat her mental health issues without medication.
She told the Daily Star Sunday newspaper: "I’ll have to be medicated forever. I know I will have to take medication for the rest of my life. I am grateful it’s there."
Beverley confessed that, at times, her depression causes her to shutdown to the outside world.
She shared: "It’s really weird, but when you’re in the depths of it you can’t talk about it.
"You can only talk about it when you’ve got better.
"So I wouldn’t be able to discuss anything if I wasn’t well. But once I’ve recovered, I can try to champion the cause then to help people going through it."
The actress also admitted to being "nervous" the first time she spoke about her mental health struggles.
The veteran star said: "When I first spoke about mental health I was nervous about doing it.
"But I thought ‘just do it’. I just told the truth. I do think there is still a stigma, but I think we’re chipping away at that stigma. And we have to keep on going.
"I get so many letters and messages from people. They’re really pleased that I talk about it. I do my best."
