Zoe Lucker: It’s sad Waterloo Road is ending

Zoe Lucker insists it will be "sad" to see ‘Waterloo Road’ end.

The 40-year-old actress played crime family head Carol Barry in the BBC One school set drama up until last November.

Although she had already left the series when it was announced it was being cancelled this month, Zoe’s first thought was for her castmates who had been on the programme for a long time.

She told BANG Showbiz: "For me, I’d left in November anyway so I knew I wasn’t going back, but for my friends who were staying and had been in the series for a long time, my first thoughts were, ‘Oh, I hope they’re OK about it,’ because they’ve done that amount of time in the show.

"They’re still filming another series of it, so they’ll be 20 more episodes and then it will come to an end. It will be sad to see a lot of the characters go."

However, Zoe wasn’t surprised by the news ‘Waterloo Road’ – which stars Laurie Brett, Angus Deayton and Melanie Hill – was being axed because it first appeared on screens in 2006 and will have reached 10 series when it’s taken off air in 2015.

She added: "I wasn’t really shocked by the news, because it’s been going for 10 series now … Everything has to end at some point. With most of the shows that I’ve done I’ve tended to go in for a couple of years and then come out. Usually, shows often run for about five or six seasons and then people decide that maybe it’s time to go in a different direction."

Zoe has recently started working with FindAnyFilm.com to support their campaign to inform parents about how they and their family can enjoy film and TV safely and legally online and avoid damaging malware and bogus features which will corrupt their home computers.

The screen star wanted to get involved to protect her five-year-old daughter Lilly – her child with her husband James Herbert – from being exposed to potentially damaging internet content.

She said: "I got approached as a mum really, I’m a massive technophobe and I do get very concerned about the internet and the sites that our children are visiting. I’ve got a five-year-old daughter who is really into film and she loves watching it on my husband Jim’s laptop … Obviously, at this age I can monitor her and supervise her all the time but as she’s getting older I know she’s going to want to visit these sites and we don’t always know whether they’re rogue or not. For me I really wanted to push the Findanyfilm.com site so that parents know that there’s somewhere where their children can go to download legal films."
