Catherine Tate’s Nan movie starts filming

Catherine Tate’s Nan movie will "reclaim outrage" for grandmothers everywhere.
Filming is now underway for an upcoming big screen take on Catherine Tate’s foul mouthed pensioner – which looks to be called ‘This Nan’s Life’ – and director Josie Rourke thinks the timing is perfect for the outrageous character’s feature debut.
She wrote on Instagram: "I think I speak for loads of us when I say that my Gran’s spirit lives in Catherine Tate’s immortal Nan.
"I have loved working with Catherine over the years on stage, and it is a massive treat to put her Nan on film.
"Here’s to her Nan, my Nan, all our Nans. Let’s reclaim outrage from loathsome politicians and put it back where it belongs: with our Nans."
Catherine – who penned the script with her former collaborator Brett Goldstein – will reprise the role of Joannie Taylor, while ‘Gavin & Stacey’ actor Mathew Horne is back as her grandson alongside ‘Pirate Radio’ star Katherine Parkinson.
Earlier this year, Catherine revealed plans to bring the character – first created for her BBC One sketch show which pawned two spin off series – to the big screen as she acknowledged it’s her most recognisable alter ego.
She said: "I’ve written a Nan film, which is great fun. I do think that’s probably the one [character] that’s got the legs to carry on. It’s probably the most popular character …"
However, she feels ‘The Catherine Tate Show’ didn’t receive the support it deserved from Beeb bosses.
She explained: "It was a sleeper and they buried it and in the BBC’s wisdom they didn’t really give it much promotion… They said no one knows who she is. I mean typical BBC stuff."
