Imran Adams is "overwhelmingly pleased" by the positive reaction to his ‘Hollyoaks’ sexuality storyline.
Imran’s character Mitchell Deveraux is currently dating Cleo McQueen but has found himself attracted to his friend Scott Drinkwell (Ross Adam) and shared a kiss with him when Scott was dressed up as his drag alter-ego Anita Tinkle.
Imran told Digital Spy: "There’s been so many positive reactions and responses from people who are resonating with the story.
"For me, it’s more than an LGBT story – it’s a story that everyone and anyone can relate to. It’s the identity crisis of feeling like you have to be someone you’re not in order to get something – whether that’s a partner, or a job, attention or likes on Instagram.
"That is the common thread that seems to connect people to the storyline. I feel like people are understanding that if they replace judgement with compassion and empathy, they can see we all are Mitchell, we all are Scott, we all are Cleo at some point in our lives. This love triangle is very new and unique, but I feel like it’s paying off and helping a lot of people."
And Imran revealed he is proud to be part of the storyline.
He said: "For people to allow themselves to be taken on this journey – to the point where they can put themselves in the position of all three characters – is definitely pleasing. I’m proud of that.
"I feel that this storyline is definitely going to push the envelope and push us all to become more united, and understand that we are definitely more alike than we are different. It’s definitely been a relief and I’m proud to be part of it.
"Even though people can resonate with it, people may not have been introduced to it on mainstream TV – with the whole drag aspect and exploring sexuality without a label."
