Catherine Tyldesley has ‘pangs’ for Corrie

Catherine Tyldesley still gets a "pang" to return to ‘Coronation Street’.
The 35-year-old actress – who has four-year-old son Alfie with husband Tom Pitford – left her role as Eva Price over a year ago and though she’s relishing the freedom she has now she’s away from the soap, she’d like to reprise her role at some point in the future.
Asked if she’d ever go back, she said: "I’d love to at some point. I do get a little pang now and again. But it was the right thing to do for my family.
"I’m often able to do the school run now, which is lovely because of the age Alfie is. That’s one of the reasons I turned a lot of things down last year.
"He was starting pre-school and I thought I don’t want to look back and feel I missed that section of his life.
"It’s been nice not having to clear holidays with anybody. We’ve done a lot of weekends away in the UK, Dubai, Portugal, France, Spain. It’s been lovely."
And the actress credits former ‘Corrie’ producer Kate Oates – who is now working on ‘EastEnders’ – for inspiring her to branch out and try new projects.
She told Fabulous magazine: "Kate really fuelled my desire to try other things, and I wanted to do a gritty drama.
"Amazingly, ’15 Days’ came up and it was brilliantly written and so well- received. But after that I called my agent and was like: ‘I need to do a comedy,’ and then ‘Scarborough’ came in literally a week later.
"I really feel like comedy is where my roots are. It feels nice to be laughing instead of crying.
"And when I read the script for ‘Scarborough’, I fell in love with all of the characters because it’s so warm and genuine. It’s been an absolute joy, one of my favourite jobs ever, hands down. No one wanted it to finish."
Although Catherine was nervous about the future when she quit ‘Corrie’, she was optimistic about finding work and now finds it even scarier turning down jobs, though she knows it’s the right thing to do.
She said: "I’m really into positive thinking and just always thought that good things would happen.
"Luckily I can sing, so if I had to sing for my supper again, it’s OK, I could do that!
"What is nerve-wracking, though, is turning things down. In the past I’ve done things I probably shouldn’t have. Now I’m older, if it doesn’t feel right I don’t do it."
