Gary Lucy’s ‘great chemistry’ with Steph Waring

Gary Lucy has been experiencing "great chemistry" with Steph Waring while filming their characters’ new romance.
The 37-year-old star’s alter-ego Luke Morgan will set his sights on Cindy Cunningham after his intentions to win back estranged wife Mandy Morgan (Sarah Jayne-Dunn) don’t go so well, and he has loved shooting more scenes with the "absolutely bonkers" actress.
He said: "I’ve always respected Steph. She’s a fantastic actress and always was back in the day, when I was in ‘Hollyoaks’ first time round. I was excited to work with her.
"I have to say, the chemistry is great with her. She’s absolutely bonkers off set, in a great way! I love that. I think we’re going to do some really good work together, so I was really pleased."
And the romance doesn’t appear to be a flash in the pan as Gary admits Luke takes "a while" to realise he has "genuine feelings" for Cindy.
He added to Digital Spy: "I think Cindy falls for Luke quicker than he falls for her. It’s a bit of fun at first – a ‘will they, won’t they?’ dynamic.
"It takes him a while to realise that there are genuine feelings there."
Hollyoaks’ executive producer Bryan Kirkwood recently confirmed the characters’ romance, and said it would be a slow-burner.
He said: "We take our time with the love story. Cindy and Luke do fall into bed together, but they don’t fall in love with each other immediately.
"It’s great to see that strong, magnificent and sexy side of Cindy coming out. It felt like maybe she’d been demoted to being a supporting character, but this next year is going to be huge for her."
