Kevin Clifton: ‘I’d love to be paired up with Dawn French’

Kevin Clifton would "really love" to be paired with Dawn French on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The 36-year-old pro – who won the last series with his now-girlfriend Stacey Dooley – revealed who his dream partner would be on the BBC ballroom competition, and the star admitted he would pick the 61-year-old actress because he thinks she would be "wicked" at the show.
Speaking on BBC Radio Solent this week, Kevin said: "For some reason, I don’t know why. I just like the idea of it, I’d really love to do ‘Strictly’ with Dawn French. I think she would be wicked. I have no idea if she’d ever do it."
And the ballroom star went on to admit the show’s dancers – which include Anton Du Beke, Gorka Marquez, Oti Mabuse and Karen Hauer – have their own Whatsapp group where they discuss which new celebrity competitors each professional should be "paired up" with.
He added: "The pros do have a WhatsApp group, so when the celebs start getting announced, usually throughout August, we are all on the group with each other saying ‘she’d be good for you’ or ‘he’d be good for you’.
"So then we try and pair everybody up by the time they are all announced on our WhatsApp group."
However, Kevin insisted the pros have no say in which celebrity they actually get partnered up with.
He said: "I believe the celebs get to talk to the producers a little bit to say ‘I would like someone like this’, some of them might prefer a more stricter approach or more soft.
"I believe there’s some sort of conversation between the producers and celebs but the pros – no."
