Piers Morgan horrified by Corrie namecheck

Piers Morgan thinks he should review his "public persona" after receiving a namecheck on ‘Coronation Street’.
The ‘Good Morning Britain’ host was thrilled to receive the "badge of honour" of being mentioned on the popular soap last month – until it was explained to him that David Platt (Jack P. Shepherd) had joked he had to calm the rage the ‘Life Stories’ interviewer had sparked in his mother Gail McIntyre (Helen Worth).
Piers wrote in his column for Event magazine: "There’s no greater badge of honour than getting a namecheck on ‘Coronation Street’.
"So I was thrilled to hear my own was cited on tonight’s episode. Until I heard why…
"’So how’s everybody’s morning been?’ asked Kylie Platt. ‘Quiet,’ replied David Platt, ‘though I did have to stop Mum throwing a tomahawk at Piers Morgan…’
"The camera homed in on a murderous-looking Gail Platt.
"Jeez, when even fictitious soap characters want to kill me, it may be time to review my public persona."
And the 54-year-old presenter joked he has also found the "perfect tombstone inscription" after interviewing veteran broadcaster Sir Michael Parkinson for his ‘Life Stories’ show.
He wrote: "If Gail gets her evil way, at least I’ve finally found the perfect tombstone inscription.
"Sir Michael Parkinson, during our Life Stories interview, described me thus: ‘You’re proactive, fearless… and sometimes you’re a total twerp.’
"I’ll take that as an epitaph."
Last year, Piers asked Kym Marsh – who is leaving her role as Michelle Connor – for a role in the soap as her character’s love interest.
Interrupting a segment in which the former pop star showed off new parts of the show’s set, he said: "Hang on, hang on. While you’ve got Ms Marsh – is there any movement on getting me as your secret love interest? My agent has heard nothing."
Kym then replied with a smile: "I’ll meet you in the garden."
Which prompted Piers to suggest: "How about the Daal for something a bit hot and spicy? Or I’ll meet you at the end of the cobbles with some scraps and gravy."
Piers seemed to think his storyline pitch went well, adding: "That offer is always there. I can start on Monday – [‘Good Morning Britain’] would be happy to let me go!"
