Emmerdale’s Dean Andrews wants to fool fans with villainous character

Dean Andrews is proud when ‘Emmerdale’ fans can’t separate him from his evil character.
The 55-year-old actor joined the ITV soap earlier this year as villainous Will Taylor – who has been stalking his former wife Harriet Finch (Katherine Dow Blyton) and remains resentful over her role in sending him to prison – and he admitted he embraces a tough reaction from viewers.
After appearing on ‘Loose Women’ to boos from the audience, he said: "I think we kinda hope that we’ve made them believe that we’re like that…
"Most kinda hard guys or actors, [the character’s] usually not like they are in real life.
"If you’ve made an audience believe that you’re not a nice fella and that you could do some damage, you’ve probably done your job right."
This week on the soap, the storyline – which has also involved the Will’s estranged daughter Dawn (Olivia Bromley) as she helps her father with his revenge plot – is set to hit "a crescendo" with a confrontation set between Will and Harriet.
Teasing viewers with what to expect, Dean added: "It kind of comes to a crescendo, all the stuff that Will’s been doing. They come face to face in the church, have a bit of a debate about what went off a few years ago. It all gets a bit much for Will, and he pounces, not in a good way."
Although the evil character isn’t popular with fans, the actor is happy with the reaction he’s getting and he is pleased with how he’s been introduced to the soap.
He said: "To work with those two in my introduction to ‘Emmerdale’ has been a joy, it’s been great."
