Alan Fletcher praises ‘spectacular’ Neighbours editing

‘Neighbours’ star Alan Fletcher says the difference between the soap now and 10 years ago is like "chalk and cheese".
The 62-year-old actor – who is best known for playing Dr Karl Kennedy in the hit Australian television programme – thinks the show has improved vastly from when he joined the in 1994 because the quality of production and editing has been cranked up a notch.
Alan exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "The high value look of the show, in HD and so forth, has meant everything has come up in terms of standards.
"It’s lit differently, shot differently, and the editing is spectacular.
"If you even go back 10 years of episodes of ‘Neighbours’ you’ll see the difference is chalk and cheese."
Alan also thinks the show is as popular as ever because there are more episodes which now run through the holiday season.
He said: "When I started it was five episodes a week, five days a week. It’s now six episodes a week, five days a week.
"We’re basically working for 43 weeks of the year instead of 48, but we still make 52 weeks of drama and the show doesn’t go off air anymore.
"We screen right through the holiday season, which is brilliant. People hated it going off air.
"All that’s changed, and we are in studio five days a week instead of three, and on location five days a week instead of two."
‘Neighbours’ airs weekdays at 1.45pm and 5.30pm on Channel 5.
