Jennifer Saunders wants gender fluid Ab Fab musical

Jennifer Saunders wants to create a new gender fluid ‘Absolutely Fabulous’ musical.
The 60-year-old actress played PR agent Edina Monsoon alongside Joanna Lumley – who played magazine fashion director Patsy Stone – in the hit series, and now she wants to write a stage production where the two leading ladies could be replaced by men.
Jennifer is quoted by The Daily Star newspaper as saying: "I’d quite like to write something along that vein that anybody could then play it, so you could have whatever sex or gender as Edina and Patsy."
The comedienne is also planning a cartoon prequel to the hit show, which she has described as "a sort of ‘St Trinian’s’."
The popular programme launched on the BBC in 1992 and originally ended in 2004, but returned for an Olympic special in 2012 and on the big screen with ‘Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie’ three years later.
Joanna recently revealed Jennifer originally wanted to end the show by killing off both of their characters, but the 72-year-old actress thought it would be a travesty to get rid of Patsy and Edina forever.
She recalled: "Jennifer said, ‘Shall we just kill them off and bury them?’ – I never fired off an email so quick in my life.
"I said, ‘No, we promised the world we will never die. We can’t die, Patsy and Eddie – we can’t die."
The ‘Marple’ actress loved portraying the glamorous fashion director and adored her because she had both masculine and feminine traits.
She said: "I really love Patsy. She’s like the Road Runner, like Wile E Coyote.
"Whenever she’s smacked down or everything had gone wrong she’d spring up again with a nice hairdo and Betty Jackson clothes. I adored her. She is gender fluid."
