Derry Girls set for third season

‘Derry Girls’ is to return for a third season.
The second series of the Channel 4 sitcom – who follows four teenage girls in 1990s Northern Ireland – came to an end this week but the channel have confirmed another set of six episodes are on the way.
Fiona McDermott, Head of Comedy at Channel 4, said: "It’s no surprise that Derry Girls continues to delight a growing legion of fans – a combination of magical writing and adorable characters make this show both timely and timeless.
"We’re delighted to confirm a third series – don’t tell Ma Mary, but I’m breaking open the Christmas cupboard in celebration."
Ian Katz, Director of Programmes at Channel 4, said: "At a time of great uncertainty about the future of the country thank god we have one unequivocally good piece of news to look forward to: the ‘Derry Girls’ will be back to make our lives a bit brighter and more fun."
And creator Lisa McGee is "thrilled" to be able to explore the lives of Erin (Saoirse-Monica Jackson), Clare (Nicola Coughlan), Michelle (Jamie-Lee O’Donnell), Orla (Louisa Harland) and James (Dylan Llewellyn) even further.
She said: "I love writing this show and I’m so thrilled to be able to continue the ‘Derry Girls story’, thank you Channel 4, Erin and the eejits live to fight another day!"
Perhaps Lisa could write a role in season three for Adrian Dunbar because the ‘Line of Duty’ actor recently admitted he is keen to land a role in the show.
He said: "There’s a lot of great actors out there I’d still like to work with. And I never got a chance to do comedy, and apparently I can be quite funny.
"If anybody is listening, we’re looking for a sitcom. There’s definitely a role in ‘Derry Girls’, for sure. I’m waiting for the call."
