Emmerdale snubbed for TV BAFTA nod

‘Emmerdale’ have been snubbed in the BAFTA TV Awards nominations.
The ITV soap have missed out in the Soap & Continuing Drama category – just two months after scooping the Serial Drama prize at the National TV Awards.
Last year’s category winners ‘Casualty’ are once again nominated for the prize, alongside ‘Coronation Street’, ‘EastEnders’ and ‘Hollyoaks’.
The ‘Hollyoaks’ team were clearly delighted with their BAFTA nod.
A post on their official Twitter account read: "Eeeekkkk! Thank you (sic)"
Anna Passey – who plays Sienna Blake in the Channel 4 soap – tweeted: "This is so exciting @Hollyoaks
Thanks for the nomination @BAFTA (sic)"
Following Casualty’s triumph in the category last year, the cast and crew said they were convinced ‘Emmerdale’ would win the award.
Speaking backstage at the ceremony at London’s Royal Festival Hall, they told BANG Showbiz: "We thought ‘Emmerdale’ were the big rivals. We are just delighted to beat all of them."
But Oliver Kent, head of continuing drama, said: "I thought it was going to be ‘Hollyoaks’, and deservedly so because we’re in amazing company.
"We were all backing different horses but none of us were backing ‘Casualty’."
‘EastEnders’ – who recently hired former ‘Emmerdale’ and ‘Corrie’ boss Kate Oates as the show’s senior executive producer – have effectively replaced ‘Emmerdale’ in the nods for this year’s category, after missing out last year.
‘Corrie’ could have two wins on the night as Helen Worth has been nominated in the Virgin Media Must-See Moment Award category after an epic, emotional monologue as Corrie’s Gail Rodwell following the suicide of loveable character Aidan Connor (Shayne Ward) last year.
But she will face competition from ‘Bodyguard’, ‘Doctor Who’, ‘Queer Eye’, ‘Peter Kay’s Car Share’ and ‘Killing Eve’ – which has scooped 14 BAFTA TV and Craft Award nods – for the gong.
