Tyger Drew-Honey says drama is dominating TV

Tyger Drew-Honey thinks sitcoms are being cut because "drama dominates television".
The 23-year-old actor – who is best known for his role as Jake in semi-improvised BBC sitcom ‘Outnumbered’ – thinks ITV have ditched sitcoms from their schedule because viewers are flocking to serious thrillers because they enjoy the mystery and excitement.
Speaking exclusively to BANG Showbiz at the press night of new play ‘Admissions’ at Trafalgar Studios on Tuesday night (12.03.19): "I think drama is so strong nowadays, drama is always going to dominate slightly. But if you’ve got really good content and good writers and a great cast then sitcoms are still going to find their way through."
Tyger believes that although television may see less new sitcoms being made he is sure that there will still be some quality new comedies coming to the small screen.
He added: "I think it’s a talent rules situation. There just may be less of them. I think situational comedy there is going to be more pressure to make them incredible but we are still going to see some great stuff!"
Tyger’s own "comedy hero" is ‘One Foot in the Grave’ actor Richard Wilson and he was blown away when he met him and was told by the Victor Meldrew star that he loved ‘Outnumbered’.
He said: "The highlight of my career was probably rushing up first onto the stage at the National Television Awards and getting given the Best Comedy Award by Richard Wilson who is my comedy hero and I said ‘One Foot In the Grave’ is my favourite sitcom of all time. And he looked at me and he said, ‘Outnumbered’ is my favourite sitcom of all time!’ That was a pretty cool moment.
