Danny Dyer: I’m not a hardman

Danny Dyer insists he is more of a "crying duck" than a "hardman".
The ‘EastEnders’ star is known for playing no-nonsense roles in movies such as ‘Football Factory’ and ‘The Business’, but the 41-year-old actor insists he is in fact a "sensitive soul" and breaks down in tears at times.
Speaking after scooping the Serial Drama Performance prize at Tuesday night’s (22.01.19) National Television Awards, he told BANG Showbiz and other media: "I was on the verge of tears up there, I don’t know why.
"It’s lovely to be acknowledged like that, I’m a sensitive soul. I’ve said before. I’m not no f***ing hardman, it’s all b******s because I’m out of Canning Town.
"I talk the way I talk and swear and I walk like a f***ing duck, it don’t mean I don’t cry.
"A f***ing crying duck."
Danny feels "blessed" for his role on ‘EastEnders’, on which he portrays Mick Carter, and while he admits the part "pays well", he would like to hire a gardener to mow his lawns.
He added: "That’s the thing about our game, it’s just a job at the end of the day. I love what I do, I’m very blessed and it does pay well, but I’m not really trying to change the world.
"I’m just trying to have a nice house around me and maybe a nice motor.
"Maybe a gardener to mow me lawns? I’m middle class now."
‘EastEnders’ missed out on the Serial Drama accolade at the ceremony at London’s O2, with ‘Emmerdale’ taking the gong, but Danny has reassured fans the soap is on the up.
He said: "It’s a creative place, it’s a difficult place to work, we’ve had a tough couple of years.
"We’re coming out of the end of it now.
"Kate Oates has come in and she’s great. She knows her game.
"I’m very blessed. I’m earning a living, feeding my kids."
