Danny Dyer: Royal Family see me as an ’embarrassing cousin’

Danny Dyer thinks the Royal Family see him as one of their "embarrassing cousins they don’t want to acknowledge" since he discovered he is related to King Edward III and William The Conqueror.
The ‘EastEnders’ actor admits it "would be nice" if the likes of Queen Elizabeth, Prince William and Prince Harry contacted him to accept his new-found ancestry, but for now his only other connection to the current crop of royals is the Queen being a huge fan of the BBC One soap’s Christmas specials.
He said: "I haven’t heard anything from the Royal Family. I’m clearly one of their embarrassing cousins they’ve got but don’t want to acknowledge.
"I could be mixing in those circles. I don’t know it would be nice if they did want to acknowledge it. Maybe one day.
"I heard the queen is a fan of ‘EastEnders’ though. I heard she always watches the Christmas special, which is nice I suppose."
Danny discovered he was distantly related to the two kings during a 2016 appearance on ‘Who Do You Think You Are?, and admits he has since been contacted by some "nutty people" who have tried to claim they share similar ancestry, and even one professor who tried to "p**s on his parade".
He said: "A couple of nutty people on Instagram, but you can never really trust that. No not really. You’ve got to have the paperwork see, that’s the thing.
"There was this professor who said everyone is related to King Edward III, which is ridiculous, but whether it’s all incestuous and we’re all related I don’t know. Why some people have to piss on my parade I don’t know.
"I’ve got the paper work, it’s all there. So no I haven’t really, but I’m sure there’s a lot of us knocking around."
While Danny is revelling in his royal connections – which also include him finding out his 26th great grandfather was King Louis IX – he would’ve been "pretty useless" as a Medieval ruler.
He added to What’s On TV magazine: "I’d have been useless. I probably would have been a bit like St Louis. I’d have been kind because they were ruthless weren’t they?
"Very violent people, so I think I’d have been nice and used my position to help others. Well that’s what I’d like to think. That would be nice – to be loved rather than feared."
