Last Princess Diana letter to fetch £3000?

Princess Diana’s last ever letter could fetch £3,000 at auction.

The note, which was written just two weeks before the Princess of Wales’ untimely death in a car crash in Paris in August 1997, could command a tidy sum when it is sold by Birmingham auction house Fellows later this month.

Diana wrote the moving letter – dated August 11, 1997 – to fellow philanthropist Dilys Cheetham, who had written to her detailing her charitable work aiding landmine victims.

The cause was close to Diana’s heart and in the letter, which was penned just weeks after she had returned from a trip to Bosnia to do similar work, the princess expressed that the visit had "strengthened her resolve".

The letter is written on an official Kensington Palace letterhead and is signed, ‘With love from Diana’.

According to the Daily Express newspaper, Dilys sold the letter at auction in 1999 and it was bought by celebrity photographer, Jason Fraser.

Jason then sold it in 2007 during the tenth anniversary of Diana’s death to a private collector.

Auctioneer Mark Huddleston said: "The letter is moving not only because of its heartfelt message but also because it would have been the last ever written by Diana.

"It is an incredibly important historical document. Princess Di was very much loved not just in Britain but around the world, and even 17 years after her death she is still very much in people’s consciences."
