Gary Lucy: It would be ‘a shame’ if I didn’t make Hollyoaks return

Gary Lucy thinks it would be "a shame" if he didn’t get the chance to return to ‘Hollyoaks’ and "cause some trouble" in the village.
The former ‘Footballers’ Wives’ actor will briefly reprise his role as incarcerated Luke Morgan next week when his alter-ego appears in court at the trial of evil Buster Smith (Nathan Sussex), who abused Luke’s son Ollie Morgan (Aedan Duckworth), but he would love to breathe the village air once again and cause issues for some former foes.
He said: "Obviously I’ve got young Aedan, Ollie, my boy in the show, so I’ve got kind of a root here now.
"So you can’t get rid of me that easily.
"But yeah, it would be a shame not to come back, and to cause some trouble in the village.
"I think it would be a shame not to show my face again."
Gary is currently on a break from the Channel 4 soap to appear in ‘The Full Monty’ tour, but he has teased next week’s brief return scenes will be full of "upset, anger and resentment" as Luke supports his son in court.
Speaking in a behind the scenes video on the official ‘Hollyoaks’ Twitter account, he added: "The story is great, the scripts are fantastic, and my role in it is smallish, because obviously Luke is in prison and he’s just released for this.
"He’s got a lot of upset, anger and resentment. Also in himself, for the fact he can’t be there every day for his son."
Gary embarked on a break from the soap in September after Luke was banged up for attacking Scott Drinkwell (Ross Adams).
The character was set to run away from the village with Ollie to escape his trial hearing after he assaulted Scott, but Brody Hudson (Adam Woodward) convinced him not to do anything too drastic because it might jeopardise Ollie’s chances of getting justice in Buster’s abuse trial.
‘Hollyoaks’ boss Bryan Kirkwood admitted last year that Gary would be taking a break.
He said: "I can confirm that Gary will be back intermittently. He’s filming with us again very soon.
"There are still some scenes for him to shoot as part of the Buster abuse story, as well as the fallout from Darren and Mandy’s ongoing relationship. We’re also hoping for a full-time return at some point."
