Tom Baker’s final Doctor Who series coming to Blu-ray

Tom Baker’s final series in ‘Doctor Who’ is finally coming to Blu-ray.
Whovians have long been waiting for the 18th run of the classic series to be made available on DVD and now BBC Studios has announced that it will be released in February 2019, almost 40 years after it initially aired on BBC One.
‘Doctor Who – The Collection: Season 18’ sees Baker as the Fourth Doctor battling enemies such as the Foamasi, Meglos, the Marshmen and the Vampiric Three Who Rule as travels on the TARDIS with companions Adric (Matthew Waterhouse), Nyssa (Sarah Sutton) and Tegan (Janet Fielding) whilst Romana (Lalla Ward) departs with robot dog K9.
The series leads up to the Fourth Doctor’s regeneration in ‘Logopolis’ following a battle with his arch enemy and fellow Time Lord The Master (Geoffrey Beevers).
Baker’s final year saw the programme undergo radical changes in front of the cameras and behind the scenes as producer John Nathan-Turner revamped the series with new writers, new directors, a new title sequence and theme arrangement and a brand new regular cast.
As a special bonus this set also includes the 1981 ‘K9 & Company Christmas’ pilot episode, plus hours of brand new material.
Special Features exclusive to this set include: a new Making-Of documentary and updated special effects for ‘Logopolis’, revealing new 2019 commentaries featuring Tom Baker on ‘The Leisure Hive’ and Lalla Ward and Rachel Davies on ‘State Of Decay’, rare behind-the-scenes footage from ‘The Leisure Hive’, ‘Full Circle’ and ‘Logopolis’, eight more editions of ‘Behind The Sofa’ and new documentaries ‘The Writers Room’ and ‘Weekend With Waterhouse’.
All material has been remastered for Blu-ray by Peter Crocker and Mark Ayres.
This eight-disc ‘Doctor Who – The Collection: Season 18’ is released on February 25, 2019, and is available to pre-order through Amazon and HMV.
