Sue Perkins reveals heartbreak over late dad’s final days

Sue Perkins was heartbroken seeing her father suffer in his final days.
The former ‘Great British Bake Off’ presenter sadly lost her dad Bert last year due to a brain tumour, and has opened up about how difficult it was seeing him hallucinating because of the amount of morphine he was on.
Writing in her new book ‘East of Croydon’ in quotes published by the Daily Star, she said: "We are now at the endgame.
"His anxiety is worsening. He is gurning and clawing at the bed sheets. If he were my dog, I would have put him down three days ago. He will live like this for another week. All of us are gathered around his bed."
To help him relax, Sue did uplifting commentary during England’s football match against Germany.
She explained: "As it happens, England did indeed win, a mere 3-2 against Germany.
"But Dad left this world thinking we’d put 42 goals past our old rivals, while they ended the match with only two players on the pitch."
The 49-year-old star can still remember Bert’s last moments, as she revealed she was with him when he passed away.
She continued: "I had my head to his heart when he took his last."
Speaking last year, Sue revealed how her father died six months before she filmed ‘The Ganges with Sue’, and admitted the trip to India gave her time to grieve.
She explained: "My dad died six months beforehand and, because I live in London and it’s so fast-moving, it meant I’d suppressed everything and buried it, so I didn’t have to feel that surge of pain. This trip gave me the space to be truly sad. My dad’s really worth grieving over, so I’m really glad I started that process."
