Lena Dunham confirms Lenny Letter closure

Lena Dunham has confirmed Lenny Letter has closed.
The 32-year-old actress launched the feminism-focused lifestyle website in 2015 with her longtime collaborator Jenni Konner, and after reports surfaced earlier this week that they would be shutting the site down, one final post made on Friday (19.10.18) confirmed the news.
In the post – which was titled ‘Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner Say Goodbye to Lenny’ – the ‘Girls’ creator revealed there were a number of reasons that led to the closure of the site, but urged that subscribers keep speaking up about injustice as they had done through the platform.
She wrote: "In the three years since we began, the Internet has opened up for underrepresented writers in ways we wouldn’t have predicted or believed from our 2015 bunker. It was an honor to be part of that brigade, and we can’t wait to see how those who forged that path keep holding space after Lenny is gone.
"While there’s no one reason for our closure, this change allows for growth and a shift in perspectives – ours and yours. But can we ask one favor? Please, continue to push forward the voices that need a platform, the untold stories that deserve to be heard, the diversity that the publishing industry claims to value but has never mastered."
Lena and Jenni then went on to thank their readers over the years, for helping them to "amplify unheard voices".
They concluded: "And mostly, truly, our readers – thank you for letting us hitch our apple wagon to your star. We trust that Lenny’s mission to amplify unheard voices and the complexities of the female experience will roar even louder inside (and outside) each of you. We’ll be keeping our ears to the shell for the sound of your plans in action."
Meanwhile, it was reported this week that the shut down of the site – which offered articles on health, style, politics, friendship, and other problems faced by women – reportedly comes after it suffered "plunging readership" in recent months, with only half of its 500,000 subscribers clicking on newsletters that were sent to their email addresses.
