Cary Fukunaga thinks Idris Elba as James Bond would be ‘cool’

Cary Fukunaga thinks it would be "cool" to have Idris Elba as the new James Bond.
The 41-year-old director – who previously helmed the 2011 romantic drama ‘Jane Eyre’ and 2015’s ‘Beasts of No Nation’ – has recently been announced as the man to take over the reins of ‘Bond 25’ after Danny Boyle walked away from the project.
And, although bosses are yet to secure an actor to play the suave spy – currently portrayed by Daniel Craig – Fukunaga would love to see the ‘Luther’ star bag the role.
Speaking to the Metro.co.uk, Fukunaga – who worked with Elba on ‘Beasts of No Nation’ three years ago – said: "That would be pretty cool to have Idris and I do a Bond film together. He can drive cars really well, he’s a gear-head, and he can do the action. If they wanted him to play Bond, he could do it."
But the 46-year-old actor will need to fight off some stiff competition if he’s to play 007 as Henry Cavill – who narrowly missed out on the the role in 2006 – is training to become a qualified stuntman in order to take over the role of the British spy.
A source said recently: "Henry got down to the last two to play Bond back in 2006 but lost out to Daniel as bosses thought he was too young.
"He wants to put himself in the best possible place to get the job next time and sees becoming a qualified stuntman as another impressive string to his bow."
The movie’s future was thrown into doubt in the aftermath of Boyle’s exit from the project, with speculation suggesting that it could face a lengthy delay.
However, the speedy appointment of Fukunaga has ensured that ‘Bond 25’ – which is being filmed at Pinewood Studios in March next year – won’t be badly hindered by Boyle’s abrupt departure and it’s on track to be released on February 14, 2020.
