John Hannah joins Trust Me

John Hannah, Ashley Jensen and Alfred Enoch have joined the second series of ‘Trust Me’.
The ‘Mummy’ star will portray sinister doctor Archie Watson and ‘Extras’ actress Ashley will play a committed physiotherapist in the four-part BBC drama, which previously featured Jodie Whittaker as nurse Cath Hardacre, who stole her friend’s identity to pose as an A&E doctor, but she is not expected to return for the second run.
‘Harry Potter’ star Alfred – who played Dean Thomas in the wizard film franchise – will portray Corporal Jamie McCain in the new series, set in a neurological unit of a Glasgow hospital.
He said: "It’s great to be on board, it’s a cracking cast and [creator] Dan [Sefton] has done a great job crafting something that’s really invested in the characters. It has a psychological concern that is dark and thrilling. I can’t wait to get started."
The series will see Jamie in hospital with temporary paralysis following an enemy attack, but he will face new demons when fellow patients on the ward start dying around him.
John’s alter-ego’s awkwardness will hide his seedier and sinister side, and the ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral’ star cannot wait to "disturb the nation" with the part.
He said: "I’m very excited to be involved in unsettling and disturbing the nation by being part of ‘Trust Me’ in this Hitchcockian tartan noir thriller."
‘Outlander’ actor Richard Rankin will play neurologist Dr Alex Kiernan who appears to be a fun and dedicated doctor, but hides his huge ambition.
Richard said: "What a cast to be joining! As part of a richly drawn and intriguing ensemble of new characters – it’s going to be a lot of fun bringing Alex to life."
Creator Dan Sefton has returned to write and executive produce the second series, and he is delighted to be working with "such fantastic actors" in the cast, which will also feature Katie Clarkson Hill, Jamie Michie, Chloe Harris, Amiera Darwish, and Saskia Ashdown.
He said: "I’m over the moon to be working with such fantastic actors on the new series of ‘Trust Me’.
"It’s great to write a series that stars established talent like John and Ashley, while also bringing young actors like Alfred and Katie to leading roles for the BBC."
‘Trust Me’ was filmed in and around Glasgow and will air on the BBC in 2019.
