The 1975 and Artic Monkeys lead Q Awards nominations

The 1975, Christine and the Queens and the Artic Monkeys lead the nominations for the Q Awards 2018.
The ‘Chocolate’ hitmakers have received two nods ahead of the October 17 ceremony, picking up nominations for Best Track for ‘Love It If We Made It’ and going head to head with the Artic Monkeys for the Best Act In The World Today award. The group’s LP ‘Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino’ also receives a nod in the Best Album category.
Christine and the Queens picked up two nominations too – in the Best Solo Artist category and also Best Track for ‘Girlfriend’ – whilst rapper Janelle Monae’s ‘Make Me Feel’ earns her a nod for Best Track as well as Best Solo Artist. Goat Girl is up for Breakthrough Act and Best Track for ‘The Man’.
Elsewhere, Noel Gallagher receives a nomination for Best Album for ‘Who Built The Moon?’ whilst his brother Liam is vying to be named Best Live Act, up against the likes of Taylor Swift, Stefflon Don and Wolf Alice. Noel will also face Ed Sheeran and Drake in the Best Solo Artist category.
Ted Kessler, editor of Q Magazine, said: "I love these shortlists and I love the Q readership even more for supplying them. We’ve thought for a while at Q that in a digital world where streaming music is so ubiquitous, the old barriers between musical genres are meaningless. All that matters is whether a song has power, or if an artist makes something to become lost within. These shortlists, where Janelle Monáe’s future-funk rubs shoulders with Goat Girl’s garage-punk in Best Track, or where Kendrick Lamar could just as easily be the Best Act In The World Today as Paul Weller, prove that. Unlike some music awards, artists are not nominated by their representatives, nor is there a fee to be paid upon entry. It’s decided by the readers and the writers of Q alone, and consequently these shortlists represent the very best of music now. I can’t wait for the winners to be revealed on 17 October at the Roundhouse."
The Q Awards 2018, in association with Absolute Radio, will be handed out on October 17 at Camden’s iconic Roundhouse. The public can cast their votes at www.Qthemusic.com – with voting closing on Thursday, 5 October.
