Doctor Who’s K9 set for ‘multi-million dollar’ spin-off series

‘Doctor Who’ favourite K9 is set for a huge spin-off series and feature film.
The robotic canine companion won’t be back for Jodie Whittaker’s first series in the TARDIS, but fans will be delighted after comments from creators Bob Baker and Paul Tams on the character’s official Facebook page suggested there are some big plans in the works.
The post reads: "There is a major project in the pipeline to bring K9 back as the standalone hero that he deserves to be.
"We have entered into a partnership with a major US/UK company and are currently now developing a new multi-million dollar series which will establish the K9 ‘brand’ prior to the release of the feature film."
Although details are scarce, the project is expected to "be set in space, akin to ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’", and its aim will be to "appeal to both new and old audiences".
More information is expected for early 2019.
While the long-time character – who first appeared in 1977, and later appeared from 2006 to 2010 – won’t be making a long-awaited return on the forthcoming TV series, it is all change for the show, with Jodie’s debut series making the regular move from Saturday to Sunday.
The 10-part series will launch on Sunday October 7 on BBC One, and incoming showrunner Chris Chibnall has suggested the programme could fit well into its new time slot.
He said: "New Doctor, new home! Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor is about to burst into Sunday nights – and make the end of the weekend so much more exciting.
"Get everybody’s homework done, sort out your Monday clothes, then grab some special Sunday night popcorn, and settle down with all of the family for Sunday night adventures across space and time. (Also, move the sofa away from the wall so parents can hide behind it during the scary bits).
"The Thirteenth Doctor is falling from the sky and it’s going to be a blast."
