Elton John set for ‘£5m John Lewis advert payday’

Sir Elton John has reportedly signed a £5 million deal for this year’s John Lewis Christmas advert.
The legendary singer is set to earn a huge payday with a one-off appearance on the huge seasonal gig, which has previously featured songs by the likes of Lily Allen and Gabrielle Aplin, and the ‘Rocket Man’ hitmaker is said to have spent four days on set filming his appearance in the commercial at Pinewood Studios.
A source told the Mail on Sunday newspaper: "John Lewis wanted to win the battle of the Christmas adverts this year and it has cost them a significant sum to do it.
"But they think having Elton on board will guarantee its popularity and blow Marks & Spencer out of the water.
"It’s a tear-jerker but also very sweet, and follows Elton from a child, through his teenage years, into how he is today. It is all very, very charming and the exciting crescendo at the end will be Elton playing his famous piano."
Scenes in the advert will reportedly show Elton playing piano at its conclusion, while actors play him as a boy opening presents with his family earlier in the clip, which has become a big part of festive TV.
Elton is set to sing his 1970 ballad ‘Your Song’ for the commercial, which was previously performed by Ellie Goulding in the 2010 edition.
His appearance comes after his announcement earlier this year that he was stepping away from live performing after his ‘Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour’ to spend more time with his family.
