Kate Silverton has signed up to ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The BBC newsreader is reportedly set to take part in the BBC One Latin and ballroom show when it returns to screens later this year, after being wanted by show bosses for years.
A source told The Sun newspaper: "Kate has been at the top of the producers’ wish list for more than a decade.
"But she has always put her career and family above everything. Now she’s polishing off her dancing shoes and can’t wait to get started.
"She was asked previously but was reporting on the front line in Iraq and Afghanistan so couldn’t do it. Kate has made no secret of how much she loves ‘Strictly’ so being able to take part is a dream come true."
Bosses have reportedly been keen to bag the journalist for the show for the last 12 years and are excited she has finally signed on the dotted line.
The 48-year-old newsreader joins the likes of Pussycat Dolls’ Ashley Roberts, radio presenter Vick Hope and Steps’ Faye Tozer, who are all said to have signed up to the new series.
There are changes afoot during this series of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ after professional Brendan Cole was axed from the show earlier this year.
Speaking about the BBC’s decision to not renew his contract, he said: "It’s quite, actually, hard to talk about. The BBC haven’t renewed my contract. We get contracted year upon year. They’ve made an editorial decision to not have me back on the show. I’m a little bit in shock. I’m quite emotional, a bit raw about it. It’s done via a process of a phone call and stuff. I have had 15 incredible series on the show. I’m very proud of the whole show. It’s a great team. I’m disappointed. It’s very hard to talk about. It’s a recent decision."
