Andrew Scarborough’s ‘horrific’ Emmerdale flashback

Andrew Scarborough had to get into a state of "being quite depressed" to film his "horrific" ‘Emmerdale’ flashback scenes.
Viewers will visit his character Graham Foster’s past in tonight’s (31.07.18) special episode, which will see the recovering alcoholic leave his wife and unborn child to die following a car crash, and the star admits it was "quite difficult" to pretend to be intoxicated for so long.
Speaking about filming the flashback, he said: "Two weeks of being quite depressed and getting into that state to film it.
"Being drunk for that long … which was quite difficult. Well, pretending to be. I am professional.
"Also, we were working with green screen a lot so we had to film things three of four times more than we would do to get the effects."
While the make-up department didn’t do much to try to make Andrew look more youthful, they did dye his side burns.
He said: "I just tried to be lighter on my feet and they dyed my side burns, because I had a bit of the salt and pepper on the side."
Andrew believes his alter-ego was experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder when the accident occurred all those years ago, following a stressful time in the special forces.
Speaking on ‘Lorraine’, he added: "It’s horrific. It explains why he is like he is now. He is full of remorse and guilt. He finds it very difficult to deal with.
"At that point he had post-traumatic stress syndrome. As we know, he served in the elite forces and probably the SAS and has seen some dark action.
"It was horrific what happened and 10 years later he’s still struggling to deal with it."
