Coronation Street’s Bhavna Limbachia gets married

Coronation Street’s Bhavna Limbachia has got married.
The 34-year-old actress – who is known for playing lesbian nurse Rana Habeeb in the long-running soap – tied the knot with her partner, whose identity she’s always kept secret, in an intimate service in front of her family, friends and co stars in Cheshire, north west England, last weekend.
According to The Sun Online, the brunette beauty invited the likes of Lucy Fallon and Julia Goulding – who play Bethany Platt and Shona Ramsey – to watch her exchange vows.
But while Bhavna has just made a big commitment, the same can’t be said for her on-screen alter ego as she’s been embroiled in a steamy love affair with Kate Connor (Faye Brookes) since the beginning of the year – leaving her husband Zeedan Nazir (Qasim Akhtar) heartbroken.
Bhavna – who is playing the soap’s first ever gay Muslin character – knew the plot would come with its fair share of challenges but she has always been determined to get it right for anyone suffering the same problems in coming out due to their ethnicity or religion as Rana has.
She said recently: "I felt such a huge responsibility to get the story right so I went away and did a lot of research, even though it was a big weight on my shoulders I just wanted to make sure I did the storyline justice … The storyline is there not to offend people, it’s to educate them, it’s to spark conversation so it’s there to make people aware that there is support available."
The ‘Citizen Khan’ star has admitted hearing people’s tragic stories of being rejected by their families and their communities because of their sexuality made her realise that what the ‘Corrie’ writing team wanted to achieve was hugely important.
