Daniel Mays joins Porters

Daniel Mays has joined the cast of ‘Porters’.
The ‘Line of Duty’ actor has signed up to star in the second series of the sitcom, which follows Simon (Edward Easton), who believes his job as a hospital porter is a stepping stone to achieving his true calling of being a doctor, and he couldn’t be happier about his new job.
Daniel said: "I’m thrilled to be working on these hilarious scripts and joining the hugely talented cast of ‘Porters’ series two.
"Not to mention re-teaming with the brilliant director Vadim Jean, who gave me my very first break, way back when."
The 40-year-old actor can currently be seen on the big screen in ‘Swimming With Men’ and he recently admitted the project was a welcome change of pace after working on three "heavy" dramas.
He said: "I just loved Aschlin Ditta’s script. I’d just come out of doing three heavy dramas and I fancied a change of direction. I’d worked with director Oliver Parker on Dad’s Army and wanted to work with him again.
"The film is obviously in the same ball-park as ‘The Full Monty’ and ticks all those ‘feel-good British film’ boxes. In this genre, if you get it right and you like the characters and enjoy being with them, a film like this gets you in the right place and you can’t help but go on the journey with them."
But convincingly portraying a synchronised swimmer required a lot of hard work.
He said: "We’re really proud of the film, but it was hard work being in a swimming pool most days.
"We had a swim test to start with, and the results somehow got back to my agent. ‘He needs to work on his butterfly but he’s very good at holding his breath underwater’.
"The most difficult move was the ‘windmill’, where everyone goes round and round holding on to each other – I was right on the end and you don’t know when you’re going to get dragged underwater.
"It was a bit of a weird feeling being underwater with those guys, our bodies bumping against each other and holding on to other people’s wrists and ankles for the routines."
