Caroline Flack: ‘There’s more to Love Island than sex’

Caroline Flack says ‘Love Island’ is about more than just sex.
The TV presenter says she is a huge fan of her own show – in which individuals couple up in the hope of finding love – and says it is an opportunity to get back to the "old fashioned" way of dating without apps or the internet.
Speaking to The Sun newspaper, Caroline said: "Love is what we all eventually want; we relate to it, we look for it. In a way, Love Island has taken us back to the old-fashioned way of dating.
"They have no internet, no dating apps, it’s just conversation. It’s old-school dating in a new TV formula.
"I’m sure we’re in for a long hot summer, and we might show a twitchy duvet or toe, but we don’t show actual humping.
"It’s not what the show’s about – on the surface it might seem like it is, but anyone who watches knows it’s much more than that.
"We know it’s happening, but nobody wants to turn on ITV2 and see humping!"
And Caroline revealed she is obsessed with the show and gets emotionally involved in the contestants’ dramas.
She said: "Watching things live with the nation is a rarity now, so I do embrace that. I remember last year when Jonny [Mitchell] had smashed Camilla Thurlow’s heart into smithereens… I think we all knew how she was feeling.
"I had to watch that episode on my phone in a hotel lobby. People were walking past me wondering who this woman was crying into her iPhone!"
Meanwhile, even though Caroline says ‘Love Island’ is about more than just sex, show bosses have promised it is going to be "sexier" than ever this year.
Paul Mortimer has big plans to ensure the ratings for the upcoming series of the popular dating show beat rival Channel 5 show ‘Big Brother’, which includes making the series "longer" and the challenges "bigger".
He told the Daily Star newspaper: "Five are getting beaten every summer.
"’Love Island’ is easily our number one show now so we are investing in it a bit more heavily this year.
"It’s going to be a little bit longer. It’s going to be bigger and sexier."
