Benedict Cumberbatch reprises Sherlock role

Benedict Cumberbatch looks set to reprise his ‘Sherlock’ role for a new one-off project.
The 41-year-old actor will take on the role for a new adventure after the creators released a video entitled ‘The Game Is Now’ yesterday (22.05.18) for International Sherlock Holmes Day, but co-creator Steven Moffat insists this is "not a new series".
He said: "We better announce something … it’s not a new episode, not a new series, not a film, not a jigsaw, not a bread bin. Not a range of decorative cutlery… although that would be nice.
"No, it’s an actual new adventure. A proper one involving the people you would expect to be involved in a Sherlock adventure."
The pair then directed ‘Sherlock’ fans to a website, where they can sign up to hear about the project.
Fans who did so were then shown a video featuring Benedict and Mark Gatiss, who was in character as Sherlock’s brother Mycroft Holmes, speaking about "recruiting … publicly" for the project.
Mycroft tells Sherlock: "Certain cells of the network have gone rather quiet … we are simply short of minds – no amount of quiet recruitment can compensate for our sheer dearth of numbers – we shall have to recruit … publicly."
Benedict made his debut as the titular Sherlock Holmes character in 2010, but after the fourth series, the show’s future has been uncertain, leaving many supporters worried about whether they’ll see the actor alongside his co-star Martin Freeman (Doctor John Watson) in the crime drama again.
When previously asked about whether the programme will return to the small screen, Steven said: "We all love our show. And we’d love to come back and do a future show some day. We’re not doing it right now.
"I have done nothing but ‘Doctor Who’ and ‘Sherlock’ for around 10 years, so I’ve got to be allowed to do something else.
"We haven’t got an immediate plan, but I would remain surprised, given the collective enthusiasm we have for it, if we didn’t do it again."
