Cannonball gets axed

‘Cannonball’ has reportedly been axed.
The gameshow fronted by Freddie Flintoff – which saw contestants thrown 40ft into the air and then dunked into the water in the hope of winning prizes – has been cancelled by ITV after just one series because it didn’t "resonate" with the viewers.
A spokesperson for ITV told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: "The show looked great and was ambitious in scale but just didn’t quite resonate with our audience so we’ve put it on hold. We thank everyone involved."
The show had to be filmed in Malta because of the unpredictable British weather and bosses didn’t think the show was worth the cost of flying contestants out there.
An insider explained: "It was an ambitious one from ITV and, while really good fun, didn’t quite prove a hit with viewers. When you factor in the costs of all the contestants’ flights to and from Malta, hotels, the games — as well as paying the presenters — it all added up. It was worth a punt but didn’t quite work."
While Freddie was the main host, Radzi Chinyananya, Frankie Bridge, Maya Jama and Ryan Hand also did stints poolside but they still didn’t bring in viewers.
Although the presenters are no doubt devastated that ‘Cannonball’ won’t be making a return, Maya is probably breathing a sigh of relief as she’s really busy this year.
The 23-year-old beauty – who is dating grime artist Stormzy – is reportedly being lined up to take part in the forthcoming series of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ in September.
She told BANG Showbiz previously: "I don’t know I don’t want to say definitely yes but I would never say definitely no, it depends on where I am and what I’m doing at the time, but I think ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ is amazing. I used to dance when I was younger for like couple of years when I was about ten and I haven’t done any structured or routine dance since well though except when I’m in a club."
She’s also busy doing her presenting on the radio and is rumoured to be joining the ‘Loose Women’ panel after she impressed with her guest stint last year.
