Johnny Vegas hopes Benidorm isn’t over for good

Johnny Vegas hopes it’s not the end of ‘Benidorm’ for good.
Fans were left devastated last night (02.05.18) when the popular comedy aired for the final time after 10 years on screen, but the 46-year-old comedian – who played Geoff Maltby, also known as The Oracle, in the popular show until last year – isn’t ready to accept that the programme will never return one day in the future.
Speaking on ‘Good Morning Britain’ on Thursday (03.05.18), he said: "I don’t know, I’m kind of out of the loop because I wasn’t in the last series. I hope it’s not the end for the cast…and the viewers … It’d be a shame because then I’d have to visit my on-screen mum [actress Elsie Kelly] at home."
It was rumoured last month that ITV had decided to pull the plug on the show after series 10, but the programme’s creator Derren Litten refused to believe it at the time.
He said after fans speculated that it would draw to a close this year: "Don’t make me f**king laugh! (I enjoyed that story after series 6. And 7 and 8 and 9…) (sic)"
However, he was forced to take to his social networking sites this week to confirm the reports were true and he’ll no longer be writing storylines for is favourite characters.
He said: "Crazy to think Wednesday will be the last episode of Benidorm! I created the series over 11 years ago, wrote it, guest starred in it and ended up directing it. It’s difficult to think what else there is to do! Thank you for watching! #MuchasGracias (sic)"
Derren once said he hoped the show would continue for another 10 years.
He said: "When I wrote the first script of ‘Benidorm’ I had no idea it would change my life so dramatically over the next 10 years.
"I am so grateful to our fans and to ITV for giving ‘Benidorm’ the best possible home we could hope for. Here’s to the next 10 years!"
