Benidorm creator confirms show will end

Derren Litten has confirmed ‘Benidorm’ is to come to an end on Wednesday (02.04.18).
The 47-year-old script writer – who created the show, which features John Challis, Sherrie Hewson and Tony Maudsley – has revealed the ITV sitcom’s series 10 finale on Wednesday will be the show’s last episode, and he is at loss about what to when the programme finishes.
He wrote on Twitter: "Crazy to think Wednesday will be the last episode of Benidorm! I created the series over 11 years ago, wrote it, guest starred in it and ended up directing it. It’s difficult to think what else there is to do! Thank you for watching! #MuchasGracias (sic)"
Derren initially hit out at reports last month that ‘Benidorm’ had been axed after a 10th series.
He wrote: "Don’t make me f**king laugh! (I enjoyed that story after series 6. And 7 and 8 and 9…) (sic)"
But he removed the message and retweeted a series of positive fan posts.
A source had said: "’Benidorm’ has been a huge success for ITV for a decade, but bosses feel it’s run its course.
"The ratings have started to drop off and a number of the fan favourites have left, so it just feels as though the time is right to let it go out while it’s still on a high.
"It has been ITV’s longest running comedy, which is a real achievement."
The ‘Catherine Tate Show’ is said to be working on a new sitcom set in Scarborough.
The insider explained: "It’s like the first casualty of Brexit – Benidorm has relocated to Scarborough."
Derren once said he hoped the show would continue for another 10 years.
He said: "When I wrote the first script of ‘Benidorm’ I had no idea it would change my life so dramatically over the next 10 years. I am so grateful to our fans and to ITV for giving ‘Benidorm’ the best possible home we could hope for. Here’s to the next 10 years!"
