‘Supermarket Sweep’ is still set to make a comeback – despite Dale Winton’s death.
The popular game show was scheduled to return next year after it was given the axe in 2007, but the future of the reboot was said to be up in the air after the 62-year-old presenter – who helmed the original series from 1993 until 2001 and then again for the one-off series in 2007 – tragically passed away at his home earlier this week.
However, FremantleMedia – who acquired the global format rights to the iconic shopping series last year – has said that "discussions are ongoing" about a new host.
A representative for the production company added to the Daily Mirror newspaper: "We are very sad to hear the news about Dale Winton, he was a huge star who always put his fans first. He was very close friend of many at FremantleMedia and our thoughts are with his loved ones at this time."
‘Supermarket Sweep’ sees players enter a store where three teams of two go head-to-head using their skills and knowledge of merchandise to win cash prizes.
But players must also answer pop culture questions and solve puzzles based on the products and merchandise found in the supermarkets around the world.
The show concludes in an all-or-nothing trolley dash, where the successful team have to beat the clock and hunt down items hidden among the supermarket aisles.
Fans have now started speculating that Rylan Clark-Neal could take over as host.
Dale sadly passed away on Wednesday (18.04.18) and, although police are not treating his death as suspicious, they have said it’s "unexplained" and have arranged for a post-mortem to determine exactly how and why he lost his life.
