Chizzy Akudolu joins Death In Paradise

Chizzy Akudolu has been cast in ‘Death In Paradise’.
The 44-year-old actress – who previously starred in ‘Holby City’ – has landed a plum role in the BBC drama series, and she is set to head to Guadeloupe in the Caribbean later this week to start shooting the show, which also features former ‘Father Ted’ actor Ardal O’Hanlon.
A source told The Sun newspaper: "Chizzy is really excited to have landed the role.
"She’s a huge fan of the show and is also looking forward to being reunited with some of her ‘Holby City’ production crew, who are working on the show."
Chizzy’s casting joy comes shortly after she revealed that her early exit from ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ in 2017 caused her to experience a "massive" low.
The London-born actress explained that she was first diagnosed with depression during her time on ‘Holby City’, but Chizzy revealed she reached a nadir when she was starring on the BBC dancing competition last year.
Speaking in March, Chizzy – who became the first celebrity to leave the programme following her underwhelming foxtrot – shared: "I do suffer from depression. I’m not ashamed to say that at all. It’s not something I asked for. It’s something I’m dealing with, I’m still on anti-depressants.
"I have therapy. I had quite a bit of therapy after ‘Strictly’. I just want to say that the show did offer me a therapist, I said, ‘No I’ll be fine, it’s just a show, just a show’. I did hit a massive low with my depression after ‘Strictly’."
