George and Amal Clooney have donated $500,000 to the March For Our Lives movement.
The 56-year-old actor and his human rights lawyer spouse – who have eight-month-old twins Ella and Alexander together – have announced they will donate the whopping sum to the cause, which will see children and families marching in the streets of Washington D.C. on March 24 to protest gun violence and mass shootings.
And that’s not all, as the couple – who made the donation in the name of the young twins – will also march alongside those at the protest, after being moved by the students of Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, who have spoken out against gun violence after a mass shooting took place there last week.
In a statement, George said: "Amal and I are so inspired by the courage and eloquence of these young men and women from Stoneman Douglas High School. Our family will be there on March 24 to stand side by side with this incredible generation of young people from all over the country, and in the name of our children Ella and Alexander, we’re donating 500,000 dollars to help pay for this groundbreaking event. Our children’s lives depend on it."
George and Amal aren’t the first stars to speak out against gun violence after the events of the school shooting on February 14 which killed 17 people, as Reese Witherspoon previously took to Twitter to express how "heartbroken" she was by the news.
She wrote: "Heartbroken over the news of another school shooting. This is the 18th in 45 days of 2018. Students & teachers shouldn’t have to fear for their safety. We must do more to prevent these senseless acts of gun violence. My heart is w/ the people in Parkland, FL. Enough is enough (sic)"
Her comments were echoed by Kim Kardashian West, who has been a firm supporter of stricter firearm legislation, especially since she herself was robbed at gunpoint in October 2016.
She posted: "We owe it to our children and our teachers to keep them safe while at school. Prayers won’t do this: action will. Congress, please do your job and protect Americans from senseless gun violence."
