Anna Friel named Best Actress International Emmy Awards

Anna Friel has been crowned Best Actress at the International Emmy Awards.
The 41-year-old star – who hasn’t won a major award for 22 years – bagged the impressive gong at the glamorous ceremony, held in New York, last night (20.11.17) for her portrayal of Detective Sergeant Marcella Backland in the series ‘Marcella’.
The brunette beauty wasn’t the only person to bring back a trophy for the UK as Sir Kenneth Branagh, 56, scooped Best Actor for his role as Kurt Wallander in the detective drama ‘Wallander’, while Alan Partridge’s ‘Scissored Isle’ was awarded Best Comedy alongside ‘Exodus: Our Journey to Europe’ for Best Documentary.
Although the UK was the predominant winner, Canada walked away with the prize for Best Arts Programming for the music documentary ‘Hip-Hop Evolution’.
The US bagged Best Non-English US Primetime Programme for ‘Sr. Ávila’, while the Best Drama Series award was dished out to Norway’s ‘Mammon II’.
Belgium swiped the Best Non-Scripted Entertainment Show with ‘Sorry Voor Alles’, while Germany’s ‘The Braun Beauty’ got Best Short-Form Series and Turkey’s drama series ‘Kara Sevda’ was crowned Best Telenovela.
And, finally, France concluded the list of winners at this year’s awards show by bagging Best TV Movie/Miniseries for its ‘Ne M’Abandonne Pas’.
