Gal Gadot bags Rising Star Award

Gal Gadot will receive the Rising Star Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival’s 2018 Awards Gala.
The 32-year-old actress will be presented with the prize at the ceremony on January 2, for her "universally praised" portrayal of DC Comics superhero Wonder Woman, a role which saw her appear in the titular 2017 movie, 2016’s ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ and ‘Justice League’, which is out on November 17.
Festival Chairman Harold Matzner said: "Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman showed us a strong, capable, poised, curious and compassionate character, and her performance has been universally praised, resonating with audiences everywhere.
"Gal plays the immortal warrior so well, and the film’s themes are especially apt for today, empowering all types of people– women and men, young and old – the world over."
Previous recipients of the Rising Star Award include this year’s winner Ruth Negga, Alicia Vikander, Jennifer Lawrence, Scarlett Johansson, Anna Kendrick and Dakota Fanning.
Gadot will no doubt be thrilled she stuck it out working in Hollywood, as she recently admitted before she landed her role as Wonder Woman in ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’ she was contemplating returning to her native Israel to study.
She said: ‘Before I got ‘Wonder Woman’, I was thinking about never coming back to Los Angeles, [I thought I’d] stay in Israel, work as an actress here and there, go back to university and do something else."
And the reason the ‘Keeping Up With the Joneses’ star wanted to opt out of a career in the entertainment industry was because she kept being rejected for film projects.
She explained: "Because there had been so many ‘no’s.
"You go to the audition and you have a callback, then another callback and then a camera set-up, and people are telling you your life will change if you get this part. And then you don’t get it.
"I reached a place where I didn’t want to do that anymore."
